NSA’s Sports and Societies: Why and How to Get Involved!

NSA Edinburgh Napier Students logoAs I previously explained what the NSA stands for and what it does for Edinburgh Napier students, I was also asked more than once to go over the various offerings for sport clubs and societies. Sports and societies have been existing at Edinburgh Napier since the 1970s and they want to reflect students’ interests so that the whole student experience is enriched. Both sport clubs and societies fall under the so-called ‘Team Napier’ and they are a great way not only to invest time in something you’re passionate about, but also to meet other people with similar interests 🙂 These listed are the current offerings, however, if you’re very interested in a specific topic/sport and you’re able to prove that another three students are then you might be able to set up your own club or society 🙂

Edinburgh Napier University FAQ: Facebook Asked Questions – Part 1

FAQ Edinburgh Napier University Scotland

Hello current, past or future Edinburgh Napier students!

After a long break from writing (during which I got my MSc and started my career in media advertising!), I am back with some more stories and insights about my experience as a student in Edinburgh. Recently, I have been receiving quite a few Facebook messages asking me some recurrent questions, so I thought I’d make a (Frequently) Facebook Asked Questions post for those who are considering the idea of studying at Edinburgh Napier University. This will be Part 1, which will be then followed by Part 2 for more insights. So, here we go!

What happened after graduation?

Hi there everyone..!

It has been a while since the last time I wrote something. I actually thought that I would have had nothing else to say, however, I thought it would have been interesting writing something more about what happened after my graduation last June.

Right after graduation I actually flew to NYC for an amazing internship with a production company. During my time in NYC I met so many great people and learnt so much about one of my favourite industries (films & motion pictures) and had the time to read more about it during my commuting time. Useless to say, it was absolutely unforgettable and I am just so grateful for such an amazing opportunity 🙂

Graduation Day!

Edinburgh Napier University graduationAnd so the time has finally come! Yesterday morning I graduated top of my class and received the Institute of Internal Communication (IoIC) Award! Such wonderful moments that I surely will never forget! My family and friends have been so supportive from the very first day of University and it was an emotional moment for all of us getting together the ceremony! Two schools graduated yesterday, but the ceremonies are still on for other departments. As for my day, after the ceremony in Usher Hall (gorgeous, by the way!) we all moved to Craiglockhart for a gathering moment with all the guests and lecturers. We then left and headed to a restaurant for a meal with all my guests, which was the perfect ending of my day. I am truly grateful for everyone who helped me achieve what I achieved, and for all the people who supported me throughout my time at Edinburgh Napier.

So, the question is…what’s next? Well, I’m gonna leave Edinburgh in a few days for an adventure in New York and then fly directly from there to Sweden for my master in Lund. And then, after that, hopefully I’ll land the job that I’m really longing for which is in film entertainment, and specifically in the movie trailers/promotion field.

As for you, incoming and current Edinburgh Napier students, good luck with your experience and with your future! As for soon-to-be graduates, here’s a selection of some good articles on ‘What to do after graduation’..hope you’ll enjoy them! 🙂

This also means that I’m now officially an Edinburgh Napier Alumn, so my student status is officially over (bittersweet!!). However, I’ll keep writing this blog because I keep receiving interesting questions from all over the world in regards to studying at Edinburgh Napier. So stay in the loop with future updates and feel free to contact me to find out more about living and studying in Edinburgh 🙂

Stay hungry, stay foolish!!

-1 week to Graduation: What’s next?

One week to go. ONE WEEK TO GO! This does not even sound real! My friends and family are gonna join me from Italy, Scotland and US and I truly can’t believe this moment is almost here. Everything is ready: my gown, photography and evening buffet for my guests. I feel excited just thinking about next week, but at the same time I have that bittersweet feeling that makes me realise that I’m gonna have to leave both Edinburgh and Edinburgh Napier. This makes me so sad I can’t even explain! However, I’m sure I’ll always keep in touch through the Alumni community, which kind of makes me feel better 🙂

As many of you are (or will be) in my same situation very soon, I reckon you are going through my same concerns: Read the rest of this entry »

10 steps for Edinburgh Napier students on how to land an internship

internship What would it be your first move in trying to find an internship? What would you Google, and what wouldn’t you?

In my previous blog post I mentioned that Edinburgh Napier offers the chance to get an internship as part of the degree only to some courses (as an elective module), so either if you won’t choose that as a module or if you don’t have such chance within your programme you should start preparing to approach companies to ask for work experience. So where to start? This is my top 10 list of things to do while looking for an internship, so here we go: Read the rest of this entry »

Last Day of Classes!

941906_10201113587223197_28721119_n

Today I had my very last group presentation at university, so I am done with all the assignments and classes at Edinburgh Napier. It’s such a bittersweet feeling, but I can’t stop smiling. Today’s assigment as a 100% group project that involved the development and creation of a fruit juice brand as well as supporting marketing tools like its website, social media and SEO. It has been a very busy project Read the rest of this entry »

Dissertation Submission and Last Presentations!

Dissertation Submitted!

Dissertation Submitted!

Today is the official submission date for dissertations for my course! Exciting times, but I must admit it does feel a little weird not having to worry about it anymore. I handed in mine a couple of days ago and I feel a little empty. I’m sure I’ll get used to this soon though 🙂 Now it’s time to work on the last big group project (which is worth 100%) and then my time at Napier will be done. SAD TIMES!

When you’ll get to this point yourselves, you may find that you’re a little lost. However, if you’ve been working on your ‘what to do after uni’ for a while I’m sure you’ll be fine. And if you haven’t…well, now it’s a good moment to start!

Don’t be afraid to ask your tutors for advice, they’ll be happy to help you figure out what’s the next step. I am very glad to be able to say that the support I received at Napier went well beyond the academic side of it, but helped me realise how to proceed after graduation.

If you’re not sure you’d like to complete your fourth year and so to complete your dissertation, think about it twice: you are given the chance to research a topic that you’re interested in, and so to create an incredibly valuable document for you and potential job applications afterwards. Why wasting this chance? 🙂
You won’t be left alone and you’ll find all the support you need to succeed. Also in terms of international students support, Napier will give you the chance to; attend free English classes to improve your second language (although these classes are open to everyone, not only to internationals), find out more about your credit transfer, help you with documents to travel around Europe. To find out more just follow the link. Furthermore, great support is also given by ISAS which works under the Edinburgh Napier Students Association (NSA). ISAS not only can help in matters of academic issues, but also with:

  • Funding, Money Management and Debt
  • Housing – tenancy, deposits, disputes etc.
  • Immigration and Visa issues
  • Employment rights
  • Health and welfare
  • Consumer rights
  • Problems on course – appeals, complaints etc.

As you’ll be able to find in the link I just provided, “Advisers are here to listen, help you explore your options, and make an informed decision. They will not judge you or discuss your situation with anyone else outside ISAS unless you give your permission for this to happen. Where necessary they will write letters on your behalf and/or make telephone enquiries, accompany you to meetings and/or formal University hearings with the aim of negotiating a solution or resolving the problem.” If you feel like you could benefit from this, please email isas@napier.ac.uk.

To sum up, my point wanted to be that either if you’re a local or if an international student you’ll be able to find all the support you need. So don’t be afraid to make the next step and become a Napier student! Pack your bags and be ready for four amazing years which culminate with an amazing project that will open many doors for your and your career 🙂

I hope you all had a great break and that you’re all ready to go back to your studies. These next six months are going to be intense: things start getting a little stressful here, as it’s time to go crack on with the dissertation, which is an extended research project in a topic that you choose and that relates to your degree. Despite stress, I am very lucky for the support I get from my dissertation supervisor. If you are scared of applying to Napier because of this project, don’t be: there will Read the rest of this entry »
