On Monday 27th April, Dr Jonathan Cowie attended the on line start up meeting for the SESTran/Forth Ports freight study, which is being funded by Transport Scotland through the Local Rail Development Fund. The project will examine freight movements in the SEStran area, particularly with regard to the Forth Ports, as well as throughout Scotland and between Scotland and the UK. The project team are tasked with appraising the development of sustainable freight gateways and potential for freight consolidation centres at key locations in the south east of Scotland to maximise the sustainable movement of freight in door-to-door transport chains, with a focus on investigating the increase of rail as a key mode during these movements. TRi are undertaking the study in partnership with AECOM, and the project is due to run until March 2021.
