Well, the answer is that SHERPA/FACT is more than 95% accurate at checking publisher’s policies against funders open access requirements. A recent study by the SHERPA/FACT advisory group compared the results achieved when using SHERPA/FACT with results when manually checking each policy. The manual checks were made by a group of members of UKCoRR (United Kingdom Council of Research Repositories). Discrepancies between the two sets of results were checked by the SHERPA/FACT advisory group. They found that SHERPA/FACT was almost 100% correct whereas manual checking achieved a 57% accuracy rate. This should provide good evidence to researchers of the accuracy of SHERPA/FACT and demonstrate the benefits of using the online tool. To read more about the study, click here.
