Amy gets a ‘Highland’ welcome to the world of work

Edinburgh Napier University is The Guardian Good University Guide’s  #1 Modern University for Graduate Destinations.

It’s an accolade we’re especially proud of, and in part it reflects the hard work of our placements team, whose goals is to work with employers to offer as many students as possible real work experience as a part of their course. That real world experience means graduates can face the demanding work market with confidence.

For example, during their 3rd Year, undergraduate students from Business Management, Marketing Management and Hospitality, Tourism and Events programmes have the opportunity to apply the knowledge they have acquired during their previous years at university into a placement. These placements can start between January and the end of March and last a minimum of 25 hours per week for 20 weeks.

The University has had the pleasure of working alongside the Royal Highland Show, placing Amy Loughray, one of our Marketing students, to work alongside the great professionals of the Show’s permanent team.

The Royal Highland Show were extremely positive regarding Amy’s help in their flagship event, the Royal Highland Showcase, which live streamed to over 250,000 people in 80 countries across 7 days.

“This was a unique live event for us, with competitors, but no audience due to COVID restrictions. Amy’s positive and helpful attitude was a real asset and I know that a number of our permanent staff really appreciated her help. We were really pleased that Amy had enjoyed it, and hope this [opportunity] has added some real-life context to her studies.”

Amy too was delighted with her experience: “I will definitely be carrying many of the skills I have gained forward into my fourth year and beyond uni.”

Each year, our Placements team works with organisations from many sectors and disciplines, and we are always interested in hearing from new partners about how a placement student can work within their business. The Placement Team work with you to learn what a placement can offer, and they manage the recruitment process to help find a student who fits your business.
