Richard Llewellyn has been appointed a Trustee of the CIHT and Chair of the charity’s Education and Professional Development Strategic Board

Richard Llewellyn has been appointed a Trustee of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) and Chair of the charity’s Education and Professional Development Strategic Board.

The Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) is the leading voice of the highways and transportation infrastructure profession. It has 14,500 members of which 1,500 are based outside the UK. It provides professional qualifications for practising engineers, produces national policy and guidance and provides CPD and networking opportunities for members.

The institution is a charitable body, governed by a Royal Charter and Bye-laws, with its affairs managed by a Board of Trustees. As a long-standing fellow of the institution, Richard Llewellyn has recently been appointed a Trustee of the charity.

In this role, he will undertake the statutory duties required of the trustees, including:

• ensuring the institution complies with its legal duties
• setting policy and strategic direction
• defining goals and setting targets
• monitoring performance; and
• ensuring the proper management of the charity’s funds

Furthermore, Richard has been given the specific remit of overseeing the institution’s activities relating to education and professional development. He has been appointed Chair of the Institution’s Education and Professional Development Strategic Board and reports to the Board of Trustees on the institution’s activities in this area.  This also includes the performance of various panels which represent specific interests.

Richard’s appointment will help reinforce the link between the professional body and leading higher education institutions in the transport field, including Edinburgh Napier University.  Above all, this will provide the opportunity to shape educational and professional development strategy for the next generation of transport engineers.
