The Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) is the leading voice of the highways and transportation infrastructure profession. It has 14,000 members of which 1,500 are based outside the UK. It provides professional qualifications for practising engineers, produces national policy and guidance and provides CPD and networking opportunities for members.
The institution is one of the four professional bodies forming the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) which makes recommendations on the accreditation and approval of relevant degree programmes meeting the requirement to register as a professional engineer with the Engineering Council (EngC). The suite of Civil and Transportation Engineering programmes at Edinburgh Napier University have all been accredited by the JBM and are subject to regular scrutiny and review.
Richard Llewellyn has been a member of the CIHT since being a student. Since joining, he has actively contributed to the activities of the institution and has been a member of the Scotland committee for over five years. In 2017-18, Richard was committee chair and was responsible for setting up the first CIHT national conference in Scotland.
In recognition of his contribution to both the institution and the profession, Richard has now been appointed Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (FCIHT). This is the highest grade of membership awarded by the institution and is only given to those with proven ability who have made a significant contribution to their profession.
Richard’s fellowship will reinforce the links between Edinburgh Napier University and this major professional institution and in turn will further contribute to the industrial and vocational focus of our transportation teaching and research activities.
