Offset APCs – what are they?
Offset APCs are a new, rapidly changing area as publishers offer discounted or free Article Processing Charges as part of their journal subscription packages. The offset APC offers vary widely, from limiting them to a certain number, offering a certain percentage off the cost of an APC to offering free APCs. There’s an explanation on a new Offset APCs page we’ve just added to the Open Access blog along with a handy table of the publishers and deals on offer to Edinburgh Napier University researchers.
It is up to you, the researcher, to check and see if there is an offset APC deal available to you and for you to decide whether to use it or not. As the Library has access to offset APC information, we wanted to make it available so you can make an informed decision. We will do our best to ensure that the information on the Offset APCs page is as up to date as possible but please be aware that publishers can withdraw deals at short notice.
On the Offset APCs page there are instructions on what you need to do if you decide to use an offset APC offer.
