The Innovative Timber House: The New Architecture of Wood
By: Wood for Good / Timber Design Initiatives Ltd
Peter Wilson, who was previously director of the Wood Studio at Edinburgh Napier University, has organised an event in Edinburgh for Wood for Good. Peter says:
In the fast changing and highly competitive world of housing design and construction, demand for ever more energy efficient and environmentally responsible products and systems is now high on client lists of requirements, with speed of innovation increasingly recognised as the only sustainable advantage. The Innovative Timber House: The New Architecture of Wood one-day conference explores ways in which innovative housing solutions can be delivered in response to these demands through the use of advanced timber manufacturing and construction technologies. An outstanding programme of speakers includes Haiko Meijer of the renowned Netherlands’ timber architecture practice, Onix; architect & TV presenter Piers Taylor of the Invisible Studio; and Alastair Parvin of the Wikihouse Foundation.
The Innovative Timber House: The New Architecture of Wood conference is the first of four one-day events to be held in different UK cities during May-June and which together form Wood for Good’s Spring 2016 programme. Each conference is focused on a separate, but inter-related, aspect of the use of timber in new housing design and construction and explores the latest developments and innovations in timber products and construction systems and their relationship to other complementary areas of building technology and energy use.
