IBioIC Tree Extractives Database (ITED)
To access the database, go to http://ited.iidi.org.uk
Use the ITED system to search literature based observations about the chemical extractive components of both broadleaf and conifer tree species commonly grown in the UK.
Chemically, wood structure mainly comprises of cellulose, hemicelluloses and lignin. However, other chemicals which are not part of the structure of the wood are also present. These chemicals, known as extractives, can be removed from the wood using a variety of different solvents.
The information provided in this database includes the species, part of the tree the chemical was found in and, where reported, the quantity of extractive found. Basic information on each extractive, such as IUPAC name, CAS number and structure is also provided as well as information on both modern and traditional applications for the chemicals. The reference source of the information is also provided.
