Wendy McInally and Janis Ross (School of Nursing, Midwifery & Social Care)
We were part of a University wide working group to review the Personal Development Tutor (PDT) role. As part of this we were given time to develop PDT Guidelines for staff and students. We worked with a student and colleagues in developing the guidelines. A literature review was also carried out. In liaison with the working group members these were then presented to Academic Enhancement and Strategic Committee (ASEC) for approval. The PDT Guidelines for both staff and students were subsequently approved and have been disseminated University wide.
From the PDT guidelines we recognised that consistency is required while allowing flexibility regarding the process of meeting the PDT Guidelines. We believe that the PDT Guidance aligns with the use of the Personal Development Portfolio and we will discuss how this can be seen as an integral part of the PDT role to meets with the University strategic aim of ‘Delivering an excellent personalised student experience’.
