Summary:

The Quality & Standards Team within the Department of Learning & Teaching Enhancement (DLTE) leads and manages the development and consistent implementation of activities to enhance the quality of learning, teaching and students’ experiences at Edinburgh Napier University and to secure academic standards. We are committed to ensuring that all students have access to meaningful opportunities to influence learning and teaching on their programmes of study and across the University.

We are appointing to a team of Student Quality Panel Members to support University Quality events at which taught programmes are reviewed and approved.

Details:

When taught programmes are reviewed, and new programmes are put forward for approval, a small panel is put together comprising a student, an experienced convenor, an internal academic representative, a representative from another University/relevant profession/employer, an internal professional services representative and a member of the Quality & Standards team.

We are appointing to a team of Student Quality Panel Members to serve as full and equal panel members alongside these members of staff and external colleague/s for these essential University events.

Student Quality Panel Members will enter a bank of staff who can opt in to work as opportunities arise and can expect to participate in at least one panel event per year. Most events last 1 full day, and it is anticipated that each event will require about 20 hours of work (comprising training + preparation + event itself). The time commitment may vary according to the number of programmes being considered during a single event.

Role responsibilities:

  • To bring the student perspective to the entire panel event;
  • To undertake training provided by DLTE and attend a meeting with the Convenor in advance of the assigned event;
  • To read documentation relating to the process and programmes in advance of the event;
  • To identify key issues in the documentation to formulate themes for discussion during the event and send in comments in advance of the event to inform the detailed agenda;
  • To actively participate in the event, by asking questions of the students (review only), programme teams and other stakeholders, and engaging in discussions;
  • To comment on the draft report produced after the event (a record of discussions and decisions).
  • To undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required by direct line manager.

Who we are looking for:

  • Effective communicator
  • Works well within a team
  • Conscientious
  • Comfortable with reading and consolidating written information
  • An interest in learning and teaching and enhancing students’ experiences at the University

We welcome applications from as many different views as possible as we would like to have a diverse team representing the Edinburgh Napier student community. Full training will be provided to all successful applicants.
