Open access increases citations
The results of a new research study show that by publishing work in an open access repository, citations were boosted by up to a fifth. The University of Michigan observed what happened when they made papers available (through green open access) in their institutional repository and saw an increase of up to 19% in citations of open access works. Theie research points out that if the papers had been made open access on the journal publishers websites, the citation increase could have been more.
