August 20, 2021 @ 3:30 pm - 6:00 pm
SAS PG Students and Staff Summer Fun – Edinburgh Old Town and Greyfriars Treasure Trail, Friday 20th August.
A fun event for everyone, young or old, fit or unfit, strolling around Old Town and Greyfriars in teams of 3, gathering ‘clues’ to find the ‘Treasure’! And after at a bar to celebrate!
Just pitch up on the day, there’s room for everyone and anyone. But if you can, please let Muna or Terry know by Noon, Wednesday 18th August that you’re ‘in’.
- Meet/gather at David Hume’s statue on High Street, Old Town at 3.30pm
- Form teams of 3
- Finish: Same place, David Hume’s statue.
- Approx 2 to 2.5 hours to complete at a leisurely treasure-hunt pace.
- Please muster sharp at 30pm, for briefing and a prompt 4pm start.
- Comfortable walking shoes.
- If damp lightweight foulie and/or small foldup brolly.
- If hot sunhat.
- Water bottle and camera.
Do please take great care at busy road junctions and use pedestrian crossing buttons.
Your team will be given one of two Trail ‘Clue Sets’ when we meet on the day. You can of course use google maps to locate various streets as you proceed:
- Old Town
Your quest will have you roaming around the bottom half of the Royal Mile as you search for Clues. Having met up at David Hume’s statue for briefing, one of us will walk you to Market Street, opposite the Fruitmarket Gallery, EH1 1DE, to start. You’ll end up on the corner of Canongate and Blackfriars Street. To finish just keep going up the Royal Mile to David Hume.
Your quest will have you exploring the cobbled Grassmarket and Greyfriars Kirk areas. You’ll venture on to the Meadows before looping back through the University area to finish back on the Royal Mile. Having met up at David Hume’s statue for briefing, proceed down High Street to start opposite Mary King’s Close, EH1 1PG. You’ll finish at the David Hume statue.
Teams of 3
Teams will be finalised on the day. If you’ve already ‘formed’ a Team with friends, say ‘Lab Rat Loonies’, or ‘Psychology Spoilers’ or ‘Professorial Posers’, that’s great, just tell us when we meet. But don’t worry at all if you haven’t, just pitch up, we’ll allocate everyone to a team when we meet.
See you by ‘Sunny David’ (David Hume’s statue) 3.30pm, 20th August.
