This seminar was held at Edinburgh Napier University, Craiglockhart campus on the 19th and 20th of September 2018. We had over 50 delegates from Finland, Germany, Scotland, England, and Czech Republic who gained and shared knowledge over the two day programme. With presentations from health and social care leaders throughout Europe, it provided an excellent opportunity for managers, leaders and academics from across Europe to share learning and practice in this field.
Day 1 was started with some wild Scottish weather as storm Ali blew in. However, despite this, most delegates were still able to make through. We were delighted to start the conference with a presentation from our keynote speaker, Judith Proctor who is the Chief Officer for the Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership. She has been leading reforms to support the integration of health and social care in Scotland and gave an excellent overview of this work. This was followed with presentations of how health and social care services are delivered in four EU countries (Scotland, Germany, Czech Republic and Finland) as we looked at the differences, similarities and key challenges with care services in each country. Our final session of the first day had a really interesting panel discussion before we were able to have an opportunity to share some refreshments and network.
Day 2 had a focus on leadership in health and social care, looking at case studies and the experiences of senior managers in health and social care. We also had a workshop examining the competencies managers require in order to deliver the health and social care services for tomorrow.
