Rising from setback to strength as an early-career researcher
On 11 June, Edinburgh Napier University (ENU) will host something a little different and very needed in the research landscape. We are launching Failure Fest Scotland (FFS!), a one day conference at our Sighthill Campus that invites early-career researchers to explore how experiences of failure, rejection and uncertainty can become turning points for growth and confidence.
This event is designed for early-career researchers who want to build resilience, share honest conversations and connect with others who understand the realities of academic life. It brings together colleagues from across Scotland and the wider UK for a day that focuses on learning from setbacks rather than hiding them.
What to expect on the day
Participants will take part in:
- Interactive workshops that explore practical strategies for navigating setbacks
- Reflective sessions that help reframe personal experiences of failure
- Networking opportunities with peers from across Scotland and the UK
- A panel discussion on rising from failure to success
We are pleased to be delivering this event in collaboration with the British Academy Early Career Researcher Network, which creates a valuable opportunity to connect with peers beyond Edinburgh Napier University.
Who can attend?
This event is open to all who identify as early-career research staff. This may also include PhD students who have successfully passed their viva.
