Research Conference

Just under a month ago we held our second university wide research conference and it was great to see so many research staff and students getting together from across the university.

The day had lots of presentations – using the 3 minute thesis approach for both our staff presenters and our students. It is quite a challenge to get across complex research ideas to a broad audience – and we raised the stakes by giving each presenter just three minutes and one slide to do so! But everyone nailed it – including one person who finished with one second to spare.

There was extra pressure on our PhD students as one lucky presenter would be going through to the UK semi-finals with the chance to win £3000 to use on public engagement activities. Alex Kent won the judges vote and you can see his, and other presentations, over on the conference website.

If you weren’t able to make it along we’ve captured the digital conversations from the day via a Storify:

We are busy looking through the feedback from the day at the moment – it seems like people really enjoyed hearing about research from across the university and having the chance to meet and network with researchers from different Schools. We’ll be taking all that on board as we plan for 2018, and if you would like to be involved in planning next year’s conference then drop us a line at
