Swap Holiday Homes (SSH)<\/a> is an early-stage startup building a trusted home swapping community for people who want to travel differently, more affordably and with greater confidence.<\/p>\n

The idea behind SHH comes from my own 25 years of home swapping experience. I know how powerful home exchange can be, but I also understand why people can feel nervous about it. Trust, communication and community are central to helping people feel confident enough to take part.<\/p>\n

Strategic growth <\/strong><\/h4>\n

As SHH develops from a social community into a trusted platform, support from Edinburgh Napier University students Jade Davidson and Nancy Pauley, from The Business School<\/a>, has been extremely valuable. As well as an alumna, Kitti Majoran<\/a>, MSc International Marketing<\/a>, is involved at a directional level as a Subject Matter Expert in Commercial Growth at Business Gateway<\/a>, which supports business growth initiatives in Scotland.<\/p>\n

Kitti reflects on her experience supporting entrepreneur Pauline alongside Edinburgh Napier students Jade and Nancy. Working together to develop and execute a go-to-market strategy, the team helped transform an early-stage idea into a rapidly growing startup within just eight weeks:<\/p>\n

\u201cI was assigned to work with Pauline by the Business Gateway, and I helped her build a go-to-market strategy just as the two students came on board, so the timing was excellent.<\/p>\n

I gave them a high-level strategy and training over a two-day intervention. The team ran with my direction, and I got a call from Pauline within 8 weeks telling me that the business had blown up.<\/p>\n

They went from only a handful of Instagram followers to now having more than 20K, thanks to a video the students made, which had reached over 1M views. In addition, they had successfully funnelled nearly 2K people into their Facebook group, creating a massive high-purchase-intent waitlist right as their MVP was ready to launch.<\/p>\n

It was very inspiring to see what a group of Edinburgh Napier students were able to achieve in such a short period of time. With me as the Napier alumna providing direction\u00a0and the two students executing the work so well, the three of us took a tech startup off the ground within 8 weeks, and I think that’s a testament to the high-quality yet practical education we get at the Edinburgh Napier Business School<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It was such a pleasure collaborating with Jade and Nancy to help Pauline realise her lifelong dream of building her own home swapping platform. The early traction has shown that this business has the potential of being the next tech success story of Edinburgh, so I’m beyond excited to see where they’ll go next.”<\/p>\n

Student placement experience<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Both students were able to apply their course interests and skills in a live startup environment, where ideas can be tested quickly, and student input can have a visible impact.<\/p>\n

Jade, who is focused on marketing and social media, supported SHH with content ideas, social media thinking and community engagement. Her work helped explore how SHH could present itself more clearly online, explain the benefits of home swapping and encourage people to move from passive interest to active participation.<\/p>\n

Jade also shared that \u201cmy placement with Swap Holiday Homes gave me the confidence to step outside my comfort zone and apply what I’d learned in a real business environment. It helped me realise how much I’m capable of achieving, strengthened my problem-solving and communication skills, and gave me the opportunity to contribute ideas that genuinely made a difference. Seeing my work have a real impact was both rewarding and motivating, and it has given me much more confidence in my future career.”<\/p>\n

Nancy, whose focus is marketing and events, supported the project with outreach, communication ideas and practical engagement with the SHH community. Her work helped shape how we speak to members, encourage introductions and support people in taking the next step, whether that is posting in the Facebook group or completing their profile on the website.<\/p>\n

For a startup like SHH, this kind of student support is incredibly useful. Early-stage businesses need energy, fresh perspective and practical help with testing messages, understanding audiences and building momentum. Jade and Nancy brought that to the project, while also gaining hands-on experience of how marketing, social media, events thinking and community-building work in a real business setting.<\/p>\n

Their placement gave them the opportunity to contribute to a growing startup, see how brand messaging develops, understand the challenges of converting online interest into action, and experience the pace and flexibility required in an early-stage business.<\/p>\n

For SHH, the placement has helped strengthen our communication, improve our understanding of member engagement and bring fresh ideas to the way we build trust online.<\/p>\n

SHH is still at the beginning of its journey, but its aim is clear: to create a warmer, more personal home swapping community built on trust, openness and real human connection.<\/p>\n
