{"id":838,"date":"2025-01-30T11:11:25","date_gmt":"2025-01-30T11:11:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/tbs\/?p=838"},"modified":"2025-01-30T11:17:08","modified_gmt":"2025-01-30T11:17:08","slug":"hidden-politics-of-ai-adoption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/tbs\/2025\/01\/30\/hidden-politics-of-ai-adoption\/","title":{"rendered":"Hidden Politics of AI Adoption"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.napier.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-schools\/the-business-school\/our-research\/cbiss\"><strong>Centre for Business Innovations and Sustainable Solutions (CBISS)<\/strong><\/a> held an innovative research forum, on 29 January 2025, featuring a distinguished guest speaker from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kcl.ac.uk\"><strong>King&#8217;s College London<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcl.ac.uk\/people\/juan-grigera\">Dr Juan Grigera<\/a>, who shared his insights on the Hidden Politics of AI Adoption, particularly in the workforce, facilitated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/dr-elena-papagiannaki-688bb465\/\">Dr Elena Papagiannaki<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A thought-provoking presentation sparked lively discussion and in-depth debate with academics from a variety of disciplines, both in-person and online.<\/p>\n<p>The discussion went in-depth on how AI impacts society and the future of work, bridging engineering and business perspectives. The discussion included topics and themes such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>AI disruption is inevitable, and the future is full of opportunities to adapt AI to human needs, not adjust human needs around AI<\/li>\n<li>Is AI adoption class-based? Do class dynamics need to be considered in future conversations?<\/li>\n<li>How will AI impact a democratic economy?<\/li>\n<li>The history of social protests<\/li>\n<li>Unions and cooperatives<\/li>\n<li>AI can support our work by automating tasks however there is an element of surveillance that will be required to make AI perform as it should, and,<\/li>\n<li>How profitability is a condition for adoption, to name a few.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By challenging common myths, a fresh perspective on how AI can support the future of work is a promising message across sectors as long as we continue to embrace the benefits and relieve it may bring us in our day to day lives.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-840\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/tbs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/74\/2025\/01\/Linkedn-cbiss-speaker-post.jpg\" alt=\"speaker presenting\" width=\"401\" height=\"301\" \/><\/p>\n<p>About the Speaker<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcl.ac.uk\/people\/juan-grigera\">Dr Juan Grigera\u00a0<\/a>is a Senior Lecturer at King\u2019s College London with a passion for uncovering the social and economic impacts of technological transformations. From AI to cryptocurrencies, his work dives into the big questions shaping our world.
