“Concentrating Photovoltaic: Achieving a Net Zero Energy Building” webinar by Dr Firdaus Muhammad Sukki – Wednesday 1st June (12-12.45pm)

Our 4th talk in the solar seminar series will showcase some of the work carried out by Dr Muhammad-Sukki on a novel concentrating photovoltaic design.

This webinar will take place online today, Wednesday 1st June at 12pm-12.45pm via WebEx.  If you would like to attend, please register here.

Solar energy has a vast potential energy output and electricity can be generated by the use of a solar photovoltaic (PV) system. Concentrating PV has been designed by several researchers with the aim of lowering the PV system’s cost especially for developing countries. By using a concentrator, the use of expensive PV material can be reduced without compromising the electrical output generated from the panel. This talk will showcase some of the work carried out by Dr Muhammad- Sukki on a novel concentrating photovoltaic design which was granted an EU patent recently. This concentrator has the potential to be integrated in window to produce a smart window that generates electricity. The concentrator has a high enough gain to ensure that it could reduce the usage of PV material and eventually minimise the overall cost of implementation while delivering a similar electrical output as a conventional non-concentrating PV system. It is envisioned that this new concentrator has the potential to become an alternative for the traditional PV design to achieve a net-zero energy building.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
