The Scottish Energy Centre at Edinburgh Napier University, led by Professor John Currie, in collaboration with the European Marine Energy Centre, have successfully bid for the recent Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) Industrial Fuel Switching call and been awarded \u00a3200k to undertake a feasibility study in using hydrogen as an alternative energy solution for Orkney Distillery. The proposed solution of utilising locally generated green hydrogen to displace both electric and LPG fuels in such an energy intensive environment significantly reduces the carbon impact of the processes and provides a new development sector for brewing\/distilling appliance design in a growth marketplace.
