Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a term used to describe \u201cany human-like intelligence exhibited by a computer, robot, or other machine\u201d or perhaps \u201cthe ability of a computer or machine to mimic the capabilities of the human mind\u2014learning from examples and experience, recognizing objects, understanding and responding to language, making decisions, solving problems\u2014and combining these and other capabilities to perform functions a human might perform\u201d.<\/p>\n
On December 10th Dr Caroline Chibelushi, the Knowledge Transfer Network\u2019s Knowledge Transfer Manager responsible for the acceleration of the safe and secure adoption of ethical AI will discuss the areas that AI might inform and shape in a post-Covid era. \u00a0She will be joined by her colleague Lorna Howarth who is the Knowledge Transfer Adviser for companies based in Fife, Tayside, Perth, Stirling, Edinburgh and South Aberdeenshire and Lorna will show how Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP\u2019s) can be used by businesses to access knowledge from academia to expedite the adoption of digital technologies.<\/p>\n
The Knowledge Transfer Network is Innovate UK\u2019s network partner whose primary focus is connecting people in order to accelerate innovation. The KTN is working with the School of Engineering and the Built Environment at Edinburgh Napier University to examine the ways in which academics and industry can collaborate to support future innovative projects underpinned by the development of AI capabilities. By linking new ideas and opportunities with expertise, markets and finance through their network of businesses, universities, funders and investors, KTN helps businesses to innovate and grow, capturing maximum value from innovative ideas, scientific research and creativity. Attendees will learn about the latest funding opportunities available and related news, including forthcoming investment programmes.<\/p>\n
Biography<\/strong><\/p>\nCaroline Chibelushi is currently leading on AI at KTN, working in partnership with the government agency, Innovate UK. Her leadership in AI is helping businesses get the best out of creative ideas and the latest discoveries, to strengthen the UK economy and improve lives. From healthcare and agri-food to autonomous systems and energy to design, she combines in-depth knowledge in all sectors with her cross-sector knowledge. She previously worked in the oil exploration industry before moving to higher education where her responsibilities focused on research, enterprise and commercialisation of novel ideas.\u00a0 While at private sector, she initiated, designed and developed AI products to reduce challenges in mental health, social and adult care, obesity and caesarean births.\u00a0 She developed a predictive model for an African stock market, as well as a system to identify tax fraud.\u00a0 She also initiated, designed and developed algorithms to predict and deter organised crime.<\/p>\n
Caroline is founder and executive chair for the UK Association for AI which promotes responsible, ethical and sustainable AI.\u00a0 Her driving force is making AI and STEM inclusive and accessible to people from diverse backgrounds and she is leading on initiatives to increase the number of women working in AI.\u00a0 She has been nominated for the 2020 TechWomen100 award.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
