DESCRIPTION:ETP is hosting its 8th Annual Conference on Thursday 14 November 2019 at the West Park Conference Centre in Dundee. \nThis event is a fantastic opportunity for early career researchers\, academics and industry to find out more about the exciting research in the field of energy. This year we will once again welcome our colleagues in Renewable Engine\, as well as the Bryden Centre. \nIt will be an informative and interactive event where delegates can see a wide range of presentations about energy research and take part in interactive sessions\, network with energy students and industry\, and for students to take part in a poster competition to raise the profile of their research.  \nThe day features breakout Theme Sessions hosted by ETP Theme Coordinators and ETP Business Development Managers. DESCRIPTION:Our next SEBE research seminar will take place on Thursday 31st October 2019. Sandwiches from 12.30. \nOur speakers will be: \n\nPaolo Intini\, a visiting researcher\, who will share his experience on the topic of “Road safety research”\n\n“In this presentation\, some highlights of research outcomes in the field of road safety are described\, namely: a) the influence of human factors (specifically drivers’ familiarity with routes) on driving behaviour\, b) the possible variation of road safety predictions between countries (in collaboration with Napier University). A brief outline of the current research shared by the Polytechnic University of Bari and the Napier University will be provided as well.” \nPaolo Intini is currently post-doctoral research fellow at the Polytechnic University of Bari\, Italy\, and lecturer at the University of Salento (“Design of Roads\, Railways and Airports”)\, with a background in Civil Engineering\, Transportation. He has formerly been guest researcher at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and the Lund University\, Sweden. His research focuses on road safety\, human factors and driving behaviour\, crash data analysis\, road design\, evacuation traffic. He is visiting researcher at the Napier University until the end of November\, working with Dr. Achille Fonzone and Dr. Grigorios Fountas. \n\nFrancesco Pomponi\, who will speak on: “The Resource Efficient Built Environment Lab (REBEL): past\, present\, future”.\n\n“This presentation will highlight the multi- and inter-disciplinary research done at the Resource Efficient Built Environment Lab\, with an eye on its past and another one on its future”.

DESCRIPTION:Dr Katerina Steventon\, Senior Innovation Consultant from  The National Biofilm Innovation Centre  is coming over to ENU Sighhill Campus Monday  30th of September 1300 till 2.30pm (room to be confirmed) \nThe National Biofilms Innovation Centre is an Innovation Knowledge Centre (IKC) jointly funded by the BBSRC\, Innovate UK\, and the Hartree Centre. The NBIC aim to connect  scientists specialising in Biofilms across the UK\, and to provide a mechanism for industrial partners to explore their unmet needs with NBIC researchers . With NBIC roadmapping sessions and conferences\, they aim to facilitate the exchange of problems \, solutions and ideas in the biofilms sector. Through their PhD and Post-Doc programs\, NBIC will nurture researchers to grow their expertise . NBIC will also provide entrepreneur training to our researchers to help them better understand  the commercial environment  and encourage the start-up of Micro and SME businesses. \nThe School of Applied Science has form links with the National Biofilm Innovation Centre and the University is now a member of the NBIC. This event is organised by the five Scottish Universities* who have been awarded an EPSRC Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) and is designed for early and mid-career academics and researchers. This will be a valuable opportunity to get advice on how to write a fundable GCRF proposal from a GCRF panelist. \nSome details of the workshop below\n………………………………………………………….\nWhether you are experienced or new to working in these contexts\, this workshop will give you the opportunity to think about how you can do research that delivers Official Development Assistance (ODA) and lasting impacts.\n• Get advice on how to write a fundable GCRF proposal from a GCRF panelist\n• Explore evidence-based principles to underpin the development of GCRF impact summaries\, pathways to impact\, ODA statements and Theories of Change\n• Learn how to use tools for identifying international partners\, stakeholders and publics\, and identifying potential impacts\, showing how a Theory of Change can be constructed from the bottom-up\, based on impact goals identified in-country\n• Discover tools that can enable GCRF teams to track planned impacts as well as opportunistic impacts as they arise. Patricia will present on the funding available from the Carnegie Trust. \nEstablished in 1901 under a Trust Deed signed by Andrew Carnegie\, the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland aims to provide “funds for improving and extending the opportunities for scientific study and research in the Universities of Scotland”. \nFor over a century\, the Trust has funded student fees\, scholarships\, bursaries and research grants. It operates across all academic disciplines to encourage wider access to higher education and further research in the Scottish universities. \nWith annual funding of around £2.5 million\, the Trust is one of the largest educational grant giving charities in Scotland.

The main focus of the event was around funding opportunities from EPSRC and The Leverhulme Trust which are of particular relevance to these schools.
