Public Engagement Bulletin Feb 2018

Get on your Soapbox!

On Saturday 2 June women scientists from across Scotland will take to their soapboxes on Edinburgh’s Mound. We’re looking for 12 passionate female scientists or engineers to join us for this challenging but fun opportunity. Soapbox Science is a novel public outreach platform for promoting women scientists and the science they do. With Soapbox Science, we want to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy, learn from, heckle, question, probe, interact with and be inspired by some of our leading scientists.

Deadline for applications: Friday 23 February

Hollywood comes to Napier… Come and meet our screenwriter in residence

The EIFF (Edinburgh International Film Festival) Screenwriter-in-Residence works with the universities in Edinburgh for an academic year. During this time, the screenwriter works with researchers to develop ideas and content for screenplays. The aim is to spark new ideas and to make sure research is represented – and done so well – on screen. The residency is funded by the Wellcome Trust, so there is a focus (but not exclusively) on science, health and the human condition. The latter, in particular, can cover a multitude of research areas and questions across a range of disciplines, so please do not automatically assume your research is not relevant!

There will be two sessions to meet Nicole:
Wednesday 28 February 10am to 11am Apex (upstairs) at Merchiston Campus
Wednesday 28 February 11.45 to 1.30pm in LRC1 at Sighthill Campus
Please email dawn.smith@napier.ac.uk for more information.

SCVO Gathering, 21 and 22 February

The SCVO (Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations) holds its Gathering at the SEC in Glasgow on 21 and 22 February. We will have a stand representing the university, and it’s a great opportunity to come and talk to organisations about opportunities for engagement and research collaboration. If you can’t make it to Glasgow, but would like me to make some connections for you, please drop me an email (dawn.smith@napier.ac.uk)

Edinburgh International Science Festival at Oriam

There are still a few spaces left to present your research at the EISF Family Day on Saturday 14 April. Please email hwengage@hw.ac.uk to get involved.
Deadline: mid-February

To discuss any of these opportunities informally, or for support with any public engagement activity please contact:
