Core members of UKCDR include the Department of Business, Energy &amp; Industrial Strategy (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-for-business-energy-and-industrial-strategy\">BEIS<\/a>), Department of International Development (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-for-international-development\">DFID<\/a>), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-of-health-and-social-care\">Department of Health &amp; Social Care<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/\">UKRI<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/wellcome.ac.uk\/\">Wellcome<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukcdr.org.uk\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/rio\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2018\/11\/ukcdr-300x156.png\" alt=\"UKCDR\" width=\"300\" height=\"156\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-949\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/rie\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2018\/11\/ukcdr-300x156.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/rie\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2018\/11\/ukcdr.png 468w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yaso talked about how the UK government is responding to a changing world with a whole government approach to international development effort. This includes leveraging wider expertise through the UK\u2019s world-leading science, research and development base to tackle global challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2016 there has been an increase in Official Development Assistance (ODA) research allocation and this will continue to increase substantially over the next few years. This includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/research\/global-challenges-research-fund\/\">Global Challenges Research Fund<\/a> (GCRF) \u00a31.5 billion (2016-2021)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newtonfund.ac.uk\/\">Newton Fund<\/a> \u00a3735 million (2014-2021)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nihr.ac.uk\/funding-and-support\/global-health-research\/\">NIHR Global Health Research<\/a> \u00a3430 million (2016-2021)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-for-international-development\/about\/research\">DFID Research \u00a31.5 billion<\/a> (2016-2021)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>UKCDR\u2019s mission is to amplify the value and impact of research for global development by promoting coherence, collaboration and joint action among UK research funders.<\/p>\n<p>Yaso also talked about ODA funding eligibility and set out a series of questions researcher should consider when applying for ODA research funding.
