{"id":1002,"date":"2018-12-05T13:44:36","date_gmt":"2018-12-05T13:44:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/rio\/?p=1002"},"modified":"2018-12-05T13:44:36","modified_gmt":"2018-12-05T13:44:36","slug":"funding-streams-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/rie\/funding-streams-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Funding streams update"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Inside Government Research and Innovation Conference<\/h2>\n<p>The annual UK conference on research and innovation further emphasised the Government\u2019s commitment to support the academic community to work with the UK business community.<br \/>\nThe Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund remains the spearhead funding stream for the policy with \u00a34.7 billion allocated over the next 4 years to support this knowledge exchange mechanism.<\/p>\n<p>To date Scotland has received 52 awards from this funding stream. A third wave of funding opportunities are being announced shortly to further support the grand challenges. Themes include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Artificial Intelligence and data<\/li>\n<li>ageing society<\/li>\n<li>clean growth<\/li>\n<li>future of mobility<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/innovation\/industrial-strategy-challenge-fund\/\">https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/innovation\/industrial-strategy-challenge-fund<\/a><br \/>\nKeep a check on the funding announcements if your research touches on these themes.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Wellcome Trust<\/strong> delivered a talk on their current funding opportunities . Wellcome supports biomedical research to improve public health. There are currently 53 funding streams available. They announced a new Leap Fund aimed at supporting disruptive research for key global health issues with \u00a3250 million allocated.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wellcome.ac.uk\/funding\">https:\/\/wellcome.ac.uk\/funding<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Carnegie Trust<\/h2>\n<p>Carnegie have announced that the funding for the Research Incentive Grant will be increased from \u00a310,000 to \u00a315,000 from March 2019.<\/p>\n<p>They are visiting Edinburgh Napier on the of 10th January to host workshops on their funding streams. Those looking to apply are encouraged to attend:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/staff.napier.ac.uk\/learningevents\/Pages\/EventDetails.aspx?EventID=7775558qGC\">https:\/\/staff.napier.ac.uk\/learningevents\/Pages\/EventDetails.aspx?EventID=7775558qGC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Carnegie have also announced a new Research Workshop initiative. This fund will be up to \u00a350,000 to support innovative research, culminating in research workshops.<br \/>\nThe key points to this new fund are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>New fund of 150k for supporting 3 or 4 workshop based projects<\/li>\n<li>Max 50k<\/li>\n<li>Direct costs only<\/li>\n<li>Must have a research topic<\/li>\n<li>Key elements should be , Inter Disciplinary topics, more than one HEI, early career researchers included, multi- cultural encouraged (inclusive), non HEI partners will be viewed as a positive element<\/li>\n<li>Result should be one or more event\/workshop which should lead to clearly identified other research topics or funding streams<\/li>\n<li>There is no closing date, projects assessed as the go along<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A two-page &#8216;expression of interest&#8217; is being asked for to set out the idea, its aims and its scope. This should be sent to the Carnegie application portal in the first instance.
