The student will work on <strong>developing an evidence paper<\/strong> that will support the overall setting of longer term <strong>priorities and outcomes for Scotland\u2019s prison system<\/strong> through the SPS Corporate Plan 2023 \u2013 2028 and also support development work for HMP Glasgow and HMP Highland.<\/p>\n<h3>Project details<\/h3>\n<p>The exact details of the internship will depend on the skills of the applicant and key policy developments which may be prioritised in the Spring\/Summer of 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The intern will have an opportunity to shape their own workload:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>to work as part of SPS\u2019s corporate plan development team<\/li>\n<li>to develop an evidence paper that brings together a range of evidence behind corporate priorities &amp; outcomes in the 2023-28 Corporate Plan<\/li>\n<li>the ongoing planning for the development of the new HMP Glasgow and HMP Highland.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This will include data\/insights on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>longer term sentencing<\/li>\n<li>crime and prison population trends (working with JAS)<\/li>\n<li>longer term trends in prisoner survey (working with SPS\u2019s research and analysis teams)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The work will focus on analysing evidence from a range of sources and identifying big strategic themes and priorities that emerge from this evidence.<\/p>\n<p>The intern will have the opportunity to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>contribute to development of longer term priorities for Scotland\u2019s prison system<\/li>\n<li>scan the domestic and international horizons and disseminate innovative thinking and best practice across safe and secure prisons, health &amp; wellbeing, protecting the public, prevention and early intervention and COVID19; putting the people who live and work in Scotland\u2019s prisons at the heart of its development<\/li>\n<li>communicate relevant data analyses, performance information, evaluations and research based evidence to a range of public, academic, partner agency and parliamentary interests to influence and shape policy thinking<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Skill requirements<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Good analytical skills across qualitative and quantitative evidence<\/li>\n<li>Good information search and review skills<\/li>\n<li>Good written and oral communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Experience of the use of social research methods<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>To Apply<\/h3>\n<p>If you have any questions about this paid summer internship opportunity, you can contact Katrina Morrison for more information: <a href=\"mailto:k.morrison@napier.ac.uk\">k.morrison@napier.ac.uk<\/a><\/p>\n<p>To apply, please email a short CV\/\u2019linked in\u2019 profile to Rob Strachan: <a href=\"mailto:Robert.Strachan@prisons.gov.scot\">Robert.Strachan@prisons.gov.scot<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Click here for more information on the summer internship<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/pgrcommunity\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/82\/2022\/06\/PhD-placement-for-Corporate-Plan-260522.pdf\">: PhD placement for Corporate Plan 260522<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Deadline: <strong>Wednesday 15<sup>th<\/sup> June 2022, 5pm<\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>PhD placement (paid internship) for Summer 2022 The Scottish Prison Service have a PhD student placement opportunity.
