SUMMARY:Walk'N'Talk
DESCRIPTION:Another one of our open to all walk’n’talk events organised by Terry. Join us for the ‘Old Town Ramble’ and have a chat with other PhD students. It’s a great way to explore the city and get to know each other. \nWe will meet at David Hume’s Statue. Corner of High St. and St Giles St. and finish our walk at Soderberg Coffee\, The Meadows\, Simpson Loan. \nBasically a 1 hour gentle stroll\, and ‘postgrad blether’\, together\, then dive in for coffee\, sup and finish. Max 2 hours start to finish\, rain or shine. \nNo need to ‘register’\, just turn up if you want\, if you can. Terry will be there – a ‘Green Hat on a Stick’. If you’re pressed for time coffee after is of course optional. A wee chance to meet up\, chat and have fun. If wet\, bring a brolly.

SUMMARY:SACI RPG Reading Group: Ethics
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join the SACI RPG Reading Group on Friday 29th October to discuss research ethics! \nWe’ll be using the resources provided by Dr Zack Moir\, Prof Anne Schwann and Paul Gray in the recent SACI RPG Seminar to consider what research ethics mean to us in our own research projects and to exchange ideas and resources that will help us approach ethics in our postgraduate studies. You do not need to have attended the seminar to join us for the reading group – this is an open invitation to all research students in SACI! \nTo make this event as accessible\, fair and safe as possible\, please RSVP and fill out the linked Form to determine whether this is an in-person meeting or online event: https://forms.office.com/r/gGMtzVpBf9 \nPrior to the reading group\, please read and leave comments on the documents shared by Amy (email her for access to the folder if you’re having trouble!). \nDrop Amy (amy.king@napier.ac.uk) an email if you have any questions\, or to receive the Outlook Calendar invite 😊 Hope to see you there! \n  \nReferences: \nJacobi\, Tobi. 2011. “Speaking Out for Social Justice: The Problems and Possibilities of US Women’s Prison and Jail Writing Workshops.” In “Reading and Writing in Prison\,” edited by Anne Schwan. SUMMARY:Volleyball Event in the Meadows
DESCRIPTION:We’re organising a fun volleyball tournament on the Edinburgh Meadows\, for all RPG students\, staff and their families\, on the afternoon of Saturday 2nd October. Start 1pm. FANCY? \nCome along even if you don’t want to play\, meet other PG students and chill out watching everyone else. \n“YOU DON’T NEED ANY EXPERIENCE OR PARTICULAR ‘FITNESS’!” \nVolleyball is a great way to get to know each other in a fun\, informal setting. It’s just simple fun – for complete novices and players alike. For adults and children\, fit and unfit. That’s the very reason volleyball was invented – a game for everyone of any age\, fitness\, size\, shape and ability – or none! Just good ‘fun’😊!   \nThe bare minimum ‘coaching’ and ‘rules’ will be provided on the day – after 3 ‘touches’ each side\, the ball must cross the net. That’s it! You’re good to go! \nNext week we’ll mail again calling for: ‘student’ and ‘staff’ teams of 4’\, as well as ‘individual students’ and ‘individual staff’\, from all Napier Schools and Academic Staff. Teams can be ‘all staff’\, ‘all student’ or a ‘mix of both’ and can include families. \nIf students and staff can form their own ‘Teams’ of 4 we’d like you to. However\, many\, perhaps most PG students working away in isolation won’t be able to do that. No problem at all\, we’ll quickly form you into Teams on the day. \nOn receipt of this notification please would you: \n\nNote the date/time/place in the diary.\nConsider coming along to play or watch and recommend it to colleagues.\nStart getting Teams (of 4) together – if you can\, if not just pitch up on the day on your own\, we’ll put you into a team when you arrive.\nWatch this space – sign-up details will be sent out next week\n\n  \nKind regards \nTerry Osborne (terence.osborne@napier.ac.uk)
