This applies to the journal &#8216;Nature&#8217; and 48 other journals\u00a0Macmillan publishes.<\/p>\n<p>Subscribers will be allowed to share articles\u00a0and add comments and annotations, thus allowing collaboration between researchers and scientists.\u00a0However, articles cannot be downloaded or printed.\u00a0Reactions to the announcement have been mixed, pointing out that this is not <a title=\"Open Access\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/open-access\/open-access\/\" target=\"_blank\">open access<\/a>\u00a0as articles are not\u00a0freely discoverable in a <a title=\"Repository\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/open-access\/research-repository\/\" target=\"_blank\">repository<\/a>,\u00a0while others say this is merely pre-empting the inevitable in the push\u00a0towards open access\u00a0driven by\u00a0funders. For subscribers, this initiative allows immediate access to newly published articles, eliminating the previous 6 month <a title=\"Jargon buster\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/open-access\/jargon-buster\/\" target=\"_blank\">embargo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This has been introduced as a pilot project\u00a0and Macmillan\u00a0will evaluate it over\u00a0the next 12 months.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Publisher Macmillan\u00a0has just announced that it&#8217;s allowing all research papers\u00a0to be made free to view.
