Nevertheless, two-thirds of the articles published by Napier academics are now published as gold open access.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, 68% of articles (518\/758) of the articles recorded in <a href=\"https:\/\/napier-repository.worktribe.com\/\">Napier&#8217;s repository<\/a> were gold open access. 123 of these were through our <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/open-access\/offset-apcs-2\/\">read &amp; publish deals<\/a>, so a majority were made open through other means. Very little of this is due to paying APCs; the most common routes are either \u2018diamond\u2019 (APC-free) open access journals or co-authors\u2019 institutions covering it (which in turn often means read and publish deals held by those institutions).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Edinburgh Napier University has never had any central funds to pay for the costs of making research articles open access.
