\"Book“Vicious <\/span><\/span>” <\/strong>by V.E. Schwab<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf you could choose a superpower, what would it be?\u202f Invisibility? Immortality?\u202f You might want to reconsider your options after reading Vicious, a smart, witty take on the superpower\/superhero genre. This is a grown-up page-turner with plot twists and snappy dialogue throughout, and it\u2019s all shot through with deliciously macabre humour. V.E. Schwab is an American author who lives in Edinburgh.\u202f We\u2019re lucky to have her. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Book“<\/strong>The Fair Botanists”<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 By Sara Sheridan<\/span><\/p>\n

“Set in 1822 Enlightenment Edinburgh at the time of <\/span>the impending visit by King George 1V to the city and\u202f<\/span>the move of the Botanical Garden from Leith Walk to where it is now at Inverleith.\u202f Sir Walter Scott who was responsible for organising the King’s visit features as does the rare flowering of the Agave Americana in one of the Botanics glasshouses.\u202f The story follows the twists and turns of the lives of the 2 main female characters Elizabeth Rocheid who arrived in the city after the death of her husband and the enigmatic Belle Brodie.\u202f I enjoyed this book as it was based in Edinburgh and I recognised all the places it mentioned, the historical and botanical\u202f references were also really interesting<\/span> .”<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Book“On Starlit Seas” <\/span><\/b>By Sara Sheridan<\/p>\n

Historical novel set in Georgian times, based around the true character, recently widowed author Maria Graham.\u202f She’s been used to travelling around South America with her husband but now she must make to the journey back to England to visit her publisher.\u202f She books a place on a ship bound for Bristol captained by Captain James Henderson a roguish smuggler.\u202f For those who love chocolate, the story is woven around the consumption of chocolate and the Fry family of Bristol are characters in the novel!\u202f\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
