These include a new plugin for plagiarism checking within Moodle Assignments, a new plugin for creating interactive content, and a range of other enhancements designed to improve course design and management.<\/p>\n<h3>Managing Assignments<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Moodle assignments now include a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/learningtechnologyhub\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2018\/07\/Assignment-Plagiarism-Plugin.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Turnitin plagiarism plugin<\/a>&nbsp;so that an originality report can be generated for any paper submitted by a student individually, or on behalf of a group.<\/li>\n<li>Feedback <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.moodle.org\/33\/en\/images_en\/a\/a4\/33CollapsibleComments.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">comments<\/a>&nbsp;which are overlayed on Moodle assignment submissions now appear to students in a collapsed status for&nbsp;improved readability.<\/li>\n<li>When specifying the required file types in Moodle assignments there is now a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.moodle.org\/34\/en\/images_en\/4\/49\/Docs_FileTypeSelector.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">helpful file type selector<\/a>&nbsp;to make the selection easier.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Building courses<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/learningtechnologyhub\/moodle\/interactive-content\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">new H5P plug-in<\/a>&nbsp;allows you to create interactive learning such as slide shows and videos with embedded questions.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.moodle.org\/34\/en\/Stealth_activities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stealth activities<\/a>&nbsp;is a new feature that improves on a &#8216;quirk&#8217; that allowed resources located in &#8216;orphaned sections&#8217; to be linked without being shown to students on the course page.<\/li>\n<li>The standard icons throughout Moodle are now been replaced by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=mv43aagVXfk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Font Awesome<\/a>&nbsp;icons.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.moodle.org\/33\/en\/images_en\/d\/dd\/33emojis2.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Emoji support<\/a>&nbsp;is now available anywhere that text can be entered.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.moodle.org\/35\/en\/Activity_completion_settings#Changing_activity_completion_settings_in_bulk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Activity completion management<\/a>&nbsp;is improved with a bulk edit and update settings page.<\/li>\n<li>When adding files to a course page they can now be&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.moodle.org\/33\/en\/images_en\/0\/0c\/33DragDropMedia.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">drag and dropped<\/a>&nbsp;directly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Managing students<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/learningtechnologyhub\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2018\/07\/participants1.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Participants block<\/a> now has a <em>Group<\/em> column which shows each student\u2019s group (or if they are not in a group). You can add to make changes to a student&#8217;s group membership on this page, and there is a <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/learningtechnologyhub\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2018\/07\/participants2.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">useful filter<\/a> to show only students belonging to a groups or their by the inactivity.<\/li>\n<li>There was previously an Activity reports column linking to a student\u2019s usage log, but these are now available by clicking a student\u2019s name and following a link to their profile.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.moodle.org\/34\/en\/images_en\/5\/55\/Docs_MarkActivitiesComplete.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Override activity completion status<\/a> means teachers can manually mark as complete (or incomplete) activities on behalf of learners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Mobile app<\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/learningtechnologyhub\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2018\/07\/iNapier.png\">Moodle tile in iNapier app<\/a> has been replaced with prompt to download the official Moodle app which supports a wider range of functions. When viewing Moodle in a web browser there is a prompt in the page footer and in user profiles to encourage downloading and use the Moodle Mobile app on mobile devices.<\/p>\n<h3>Other changes<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Course navigation improvements include <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/learningtechnologyhub\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2018\/07\/open-close-sections.png\">open\/close all sections<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.moodle.org\/34\/en\/images_en\/8\/8b\/Docs_ActivityNavigationLinks.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">previous and next links<\/a>, and a jump-to menu which appear in any activity page such as quizzes, assignments and forums.<\/li>\n<li>Calendar management improvements include&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.moodle.org\/34\/en\/images_en\/1\/10\/Docs_CalendarDragDrop.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">drag and dropping calendar events<\/a> and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.moodle.org\/34\/en\/images_en\/a\/a7\/Docs_CalendarCategoryEvent.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">new category events<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>There are&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.moodle.org\/33\/en\/images_en\/f\/f1\/33Tagging.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">more tag areas<\/a>&nbsp;for easier searching of glossary entries, forum posts and book chapters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Moodle has been upgraded to version 3.4 and here you will find details of the most noticeable changes.
