{"id":1015,"date":"2017-08-06T22:08:00","date_gmt":"2017-08-06T22:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/learningtechnologyhub\/?p=1015"},"modified":"2021-05-28T11:31:54","modified_gmt":"2021-05-28T11:31:54","slug":"categories-items-moodle-gradebook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/learningtechnologyhub\/2017\/08\/06\/categories-items-moodle-gradebook\/","title":{"rendered":"Categories &amp; Items: Global Online Gradebook"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Organising Grade Items can make your calculations easier and improve student understanding of their <em>User Report<\/em>.&nbsp;As&nbsp;described in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/learningtechnologyhub\/grading-and-feedback\/gradebook-user-report\/\">Gradebook and User Report<\/a> page,&nbsp;when each activity is added to a Moodle course a corresponding <em>Grade Item<\/em> is created.<\/p>\n<p>To begin with each of these will be placed within the Courses default category, but if we have a course with many elements we may group&nbsp;them into categories which allows us to present a more sensitive and understandable calculation of performance.<\/p>\n<h2>Global Online&nbsp;Gradebook<\/h2>\n<p>The Global Online suite courses use a combination of submitted work e.g. via Turnitin, and 10 quizzes termed &#8216;Progress Tests&#8217;. The screenshots below are from one of the Global Online Courses &#8216;Building High Performance Organisations&#8217;.&nbsp;For calculation and usability reasons grouping into separate categories is used. To do this we select <em>Gradebook setup<\/em> from the drop-menu and then the <em>Add category<\/em> button.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1783 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/learningtechnologyhub\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2017\/10\/grades5-e1507837557832.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"50\"><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1787 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/learningtechnologyhub\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2017\/10\/grades6-1-e1508140444880.png\" alt=\"Grade category \" width=\"250\" height=\"52\"><\/p>\n<p>This is followed by moving each grade item into the appropriate category.
