Turnitin highlights matching text\u00a0 in originality reports and has proven helpful both for deterring plagiarism and for improving student&#8217;s referencing skills.<\/p>\n<p>Turnitin is available as a Moodle plugin and the following points should be noted\u00a0when considering Turnitin as a route for eSubmission of coursework:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The main purpose is for originality checking and therefore accepts only text-based file formats (Word, PDF, etc.) that are under 40Mb in size. See the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/learningtechnologyhub\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2020\/03\/Turnitin-Moodle-students.pdf\">student guide to Turnitin assignments.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Group submissions and feedback are not supported as documents can only be submitted by individual students. See the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/learningtechnologyhub\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2018\/07\/Assignment-Plagiarism-Plugin.pdf\">Moodle Assignments<\/a> for group submissions and originality checking.<\/li>\n<li>Feedback and grading is available through <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/learningtechnologyhub\/grading-and-feedback\/feedback-studio\/\">Feedback Studio<\/a> (previously known as GradeMark) which provides weighted and qualitative rubrics, grading forms, bubble and text comments overlaid on submissions, and audio comments.<\/li>\n<li>The iPad app for markers provides an almost identical interface for feedback and grading, and can be used offline.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">The official Turnitin Instructor guide provides detailed instructions for <a href=\"https:\/\/help.turnitin.com\/feedback-studio\/moodle\/direct-v2\/instructor\/assignment-management\/creating-an-assignment.htm\">creating an assignment<\/a>, and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/learningtechnologyhub\/esubmission\/staff-guidelines\/\">University Staff Guidelines<\/a>\u00a0provide hints and tips to help you set up, download and process student coursework submissions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">You can listen to these<a href=\"http:\/\/moodletrain.napier.ac.uk\/course\/view.php?id=909#section-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em> Staff Voices<\/em><\/a>\u00a0from colleagues across the Schools which offer great insight on the pro\u2019s and con\u2019s of using Turnitin.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Turnitin is text-matching software service that is used to assess the originality of submitted coursework.
