Around 1.6 billion people depend on forests for their livelihood.\u00a0Forests are the most biologically-diverse ecosystems on land, home to more than 80% of the terrestrial species of animals, plants and insects. They also provide shelter, jobs and security for forest-dependent communities. \u00a0Forests are no less important in the UK &#8211; and while our forest cover is low by European standards, they still provide a wide range of important environmental, social and economic\u00a0benefits.<\/p>\n<p>It is refreshing to see a video showing the modern face of forestry.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Our Forests, Our People\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XM5AA-6DTlA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>Yesterday (March 21st) was International Day of Forests so this is a slightly belated post.
