{"id":500,"date":"2016-01-04T20:57:40","date_gmt":"2016-01-04T20:57:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/cwst\/?p=500"},"modified":"2024-04-10T11:12:57","modified_gmt":"2024-04-10T11:12:57","slug":"whats-wrong-with-bs-3731957","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/cwst\/whats-wrong-with-bs-3731957\/","title":{"rendered":"What&#8217;s wrong with BS 373:1957?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sadly, British Standard 373:1957 &#8220;Methods of testing small clear specimens of timber&#8221; probably won&#8217;t get to see it&#8217;s 60th birthday due to a rather critical error in the equations for calculating the Modulus of Elasticity from bending tests. \u00a0The 1957\u00a0edition of the standard was correct, but somewhere along the line the equations got corrupted.<br \/>Since the original 1957 publication, the standard has been\u00a0reformatted. It&#8217;s a good job the people that use this standard know their engineering mechanics theory. But yeah&#8230; should still be fixed.
