{"id":2908,"date":"2021-07-01T08:34:11","date_gmt":"2021-07-01T08:34:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/cwst\/?p=2908"},"modified":"2021-07-01T08:34:13","modified_gmt":"2021-07-01T08:34:13","slug":"brexit-and-standards-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/cwst\/brexit-and-standards-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Brexit and standards update"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have pontificated on the direction and implication of Brexit on standards &#8211; and in particular on the British Standards Institution&#8217;s membership of CEN &#8211; a few times on this blog [e.g. <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/cwst\/brexit-timber-again\/\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/cwst\/brexit-standards-update\/\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/cwst\/cen-voting-maths\/\">and here<\/a>].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We now have some news from BSI:<br><em>&#8220;The CEN and CENELEC General Assemblies have overwhelmingly agreed to revise the membership arrangements in their statutes, reflecting the UK\u2019s departure from the EU. The agreement comes after careful consideration by the CEN and CENELEC members of the impacts of the UK\u2019s exit from the EU on the European standardization system and on the organisations\u2019 membership statutes.<br>&#8230;BSI\u2019s status in CEN and CENELEC is expected to be confirmed in November, following a membership assessment over the summer. This will enable BSI to transfer to a new category of full membership within CEN and CENELEC<br>from 1 January 2022.<br>&#8230;The new provisions will maintain the way stakeholders engage with<br>CEN and CENELEC, retaining all the rights in standards developing committees as now.<br>We will continue to keep stakeholders updated throughout the year on these developments.<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsigroup.com\/en-GB\/about-bsi\/uk-national-standards-body\/standards-policy-on-the-uk-leaving-the-eu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">For more, see BSI&#8217;s website.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>We have pontificated on the direction and implication of Brexit on standards &#8211;
