{"id":1909,"date":"2019-02-11T12:05:28","date_gmt":"2019-02-11T12:05:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/cwst\/?page_id=1909"},"modified":"2019-07-11T14:45:12","modified_gmt":"2019-07-11T14:45:12","slug":"woodmusick2019","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/cwst\/woodmusick2019\/","title":{"rendered":"WoodMusICK2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote>\n<p>The call for papers is open (see below)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>WoodMusICK2019 is an interdisciplinary conference about wood&#8217;s role in music &#8211; today and in the past.&nbsp; It follows on from the <a href=\"http:\/\/woodmusick.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">COST Action of the same name<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are very happy to announce the next WoodMusICK conference will take place on the 17th \u2013 18th October 2019, hosted by the University of Edinburgh at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stcecilias.ed.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St Cecilia\u2019s Hall<\/a>. This conference is in association with The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iom3.org\/wood-technology-society\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wood Technology Society of IOM3<\/a>.&nbsp; The meeting covers a wide scope including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conservation of historical wooden musical instruments;<\/li>\n<li>Wood and the making of new instruments;<\/li>\n<li>The role of wood of wood in performance and&nbsp;musical heritage.<\/li>\n<li>Wood and acoustics, from instruments to concert halls<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We are keen to have participation from makers, musicians, conservators, wood scientists, musicologists, acousticians and even foresters.&nbsp; If you are interested in both wood and music, this is the conference for you!<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/eepurl.com\/ggX91r\">You can sign up to our mailing list to keep informed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The format for this meeting will be a mixture of sessions of 20 minutes\u2019 presentations (plus 10 minutes for Q&amp;A), Pecha Kucha-type sessions for short presentations (three minutes each), and idea-exchange sessions (posters).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every contribution regardless of the length format shall be represented by a poster (a specific format will be provided by the organization committee &#8211; based on the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"&quot;better poster&quot; concept by Mike Morrison (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/1RwJbhkCA58\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;#betterposter&#8221; concept by Mike Morrison<\/a>). These posters will serve as a visual abstract both to incite dialogue during the idea-exchange sessions, and to be shared digitally to reach a wider audience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the end of each day of the meeting, there will be an open panel session. This will be a space to facilitate dialogue and exchange of ideas with focus on interpersonal cross-discipline exchange rather than on one-sided transfer of information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Instructions for abstract submission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Abstracts should be prepared following the format and style as the provided template (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/s\/f98g0yurs1sv91d\/Instructions%20for%20preparing%20and%20submitting%20an%20abstract%20for%20the%20WoodMusick%202019%20conference%20in%20Edinburgh.docx?dl=0\">Word<\/a>). <\/li><li>Language should be English and abstracts should be 1 or 2 pages in length  <\/li><li>Please submit the abstract as a PDF document (maximum size 10 Mb) <\/li><li>Only electronic submissions will be accepted<\/li><li>The abstracts should be sent by July 15th 2019 via the form below (email d.ridleyellis@napier.ac.uk if there are any problems) <\/li><li>Confirmation of acceptance will be sent by the 15th August 2019<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">THE CONFERENCE IS POSTPONED.
