{"id":390,"date":"2022-02-02T09:42:01","date_gmt":"2022-02-02T09:42:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/social-informatics\/?p=390"},"modified":"2022-02-02T09:42:03","modified_gmt":"2022-02-02T09:42:03","slug":"platform-to-platform-project-goes-live","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/social-informatics\/2022\/02\/platform-to-platform-project-goes-live\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Platform to Platform\u2019 project goes live!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.napier.ac.uk\/people\/bruce-ryan\" target=\"_blank\">Dr Bruce Ryan<\/a>&nbsp;(PI),&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.napier.ac.uk\/people\/hazel-hall\" target=\"_blank\">Professor Hazel Hall<\/a>&nbsp;(CoI) and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.napier.ac.uk\/people\/iain-mcgregor\">Dr Iain McGr<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.napier.ac.uk\/people\/iain-mcgregor\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">e<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.napier.ac.uk\/people\/iain-mcgregor\">gor<\/a>&nbsp;(CoI) are delighted that the&nbsp;<em>Platform to Platform<\/em>&nbsp;project went live today (2 February 2022).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This project will transform\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blipfoto.com\/LornaL\" target=\"_blank\">diaries of World War 2 written by Lorna Beatrice Lloyd<\/a>\u00a0(7th January 1914 to 2nd February 1942) from text on Blipfoto into podcasts. The podcasts will be created by Edinburgh Napier University Sound Design students, from recordings of the diaries by\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.backstage.com\/tal\/bethany-ray\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bethany Ray<\/a>, along with sound effects, recordings of contemporary newspaper articles and audio from newsreels. Bethany is Lorna\u2019s great great niece.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project will then research how people who have read the diaries on the Blipfoto (textual) platform now relate to them on the podcast (audio) platform. Hence the project\u2019s name. The project will also investigate how the Sound Design students\u2019 relationships with history change as a result of this work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The podcasts will be launched at an event in Malvern Museum in May 2022. Lorna wrote her diaries while living in Malvern, and the museum holds the exercise book in which Lorna wrote them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The research will enable the project team to answer two main research questions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>What are audience modes of engagement with digitised archive data sets transformed into a podcast series?&nbsp;<\/li><li>How can creative industries (notably heritage and cultural education) use this knowledge of modes of engagement, and its impact and value, to attract new audiences in meaningful ways, and to generate data-driven innovation?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are more details about the project, Lorna and Bethany on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/hazelhall.org\/2021\/12\/05\/introducing-platform-to-platform-an-investigation-into-audience-engagement-with-digitised-archives-and-its-transformative-impact-across-different-online-formats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hazel\u2019s blog-post<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Look out for further updates on the project&#8217;s progress via a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blipfoto.com\/LornaLPodcast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">new Blipfoto journal, <em>LornaLPodcast<\/em><\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, the project team thanks&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/creativeinformatics.org\/research\/announcing-the-latest-ci-small-research-grant-holders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Creative Informatics<\/a>&nbsp;for funding this project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>Dr Bruce Ryan&nbsp;(PI),&nbsp;Professor Hazel Hall&nbsp;(CoI) and&nbsp;Dr Iain McGregor&nbsp;(CoI) are delighted that the&nbsp;Platform to Platform&nbsp;project went live today (2 February 2022).
