{"id":1405,"date":"2025-10-02T15:18:42","date_gmt":"2025-10-02T15:18:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/publicengagement\/?p=1405"},"modified":"2025-10-02T15:18:42","modified_gmt":"2025-10-02T15:18:42","slug":"sustainable-energy-workshops-with-edinburgh-scouts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/publicengagement\/sustainable-energy-workshops-with-edinburgh-scouts\/","title":{"rendered":"Sustainable Energy: Workshops with Edinburgh Scouts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Researchers: Dr. Jubaer Ahmed, Dr. Savvas Papadopoulos, Dr. Fadi Kahwash<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Workshops delivered to 3 Scout groups in Edinburgh 8<sup>th<\/sup> Braid Salaam Scout, \u00a044th braid Marchmont St Giles and 28<sup>th<\/sup> Braid Scout, Mayfield in April and May 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The renewable energy and microgrid research group was proud to deliver three interactive hands-on workshops for three Scout groups in Edinburgh. The project aim was to increase awareness of the societal and technical challenges that we will face to increase our reliance on renewable energy. The workshops were designed around solar Energy, wind Energy and hydrogen fuel cells. In three workshops around 64 Scout members from 8<sup>th<\/sup> Braid, 28<sup>th<\/sup> Braid and 44<sup>th<\/sup> Braid took part. The young participants, aged between 11-14, had the opportunity to conduct engineering experiments using the tools we provided. At the end of each session the Scouts took part in a quiz competition.<\/p>\n<p>The participants were very curious on the technology behind the renewable energy sources, and we were bombarded with tons of questions. The verbal feedback from the participants were very positive and they appreciated our effort in designing the activities for them.
