{"id":470,"date":"2025-01-26T20:06:57","date_gmt":"2025-01-26T20:06:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/mmp-conference\/?page_id=470"},"modified":"2025-03-05T22:35:47","modified_gmt":"2025-03-05T22:35:47","slug":"mmp-conference-2025","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/mmp-conference\/mmp-conference-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"MMP Conference 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:22px\"><strong>Welcome to the Major Music Project Conference 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:18px\">The one-day, student-led MMP conference is part of the learning &amp; teaching activities of the fourth-year <a href=\"https:\/\/www.modules.napier.ac.uk\/Module.aspx?ID=MUS10105&amp;Letter=mus10105\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MUS10105 Major Music Project<\/a>&nbsp;undergraduate module offered at Edinburgh Napier University, School of Arts and Creative Industries. The purpose of this student-led event is to act as an opportunity for our 4<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;year BA Music students to present their final year dissertations and practice-led research projects work-in-progress, and to share their research processes and findings with their peers and the extended academic community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"790\" height=\"592\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.napier.ac.uk\/mmp-conference\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/124\/2025\/01\/mycelium.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-473\" style=\"width:644px;height:auto\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">&nbsp;<em>Mycelium by Rob Hille (2011) \/ CC BY-SA 3.0<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\">\u201cMycelium is an immune system protecting habitats by nourishing a diverse succession of collaborating organisms that are continuously exchanging resources and information. Within these life-giving networks &#8211; just one cell wall thick &#8211; comes the power to steer entire ecosystems on their evolutionary path.\u201d (Stamets, 2024)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:18px\">The theme of the 2025 MMP Conference is <strong>\u2018Dialogue\u2019<\/strong>. In thinking about <em>dialogue<\/em>, we draw inspiration from the metaphor of <em>mycelium<\/em>. Just as <em>mycelium<\/em> connects and nourishes diverse organisms, facilitating the exchange of nutrients and information across ecosystems, <em>dialogue <\/em>in research fosters the exchange of ideas, perspectives, and knowledge. These interactions, whether subtle or overt, influence the trajectory of research, driving interdisciplinary development and growth within academic fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We invite participants to reflect and explore these subtle and layered interactions in their own research, and to consider how various forms of <em>dialogue<\/em> \u2014 such as academic lineage (existing dialogue), interdisciplinary or intersectional exchanges, and metacognition (internal dialogues) \u2014 nourish and contribute to the ongoing development of their research work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:18px\">Participants may also consider more specific forms of <em>dialogue<\/em>, such as non-verbal interactions between performers in live settings, collaborations among artists across mediums, or broader conversations on the role of art in research. Artistic research, in particular \u2014 a field whose identity is in constant negotiation within the academic community (Jullander, 2016) \u2014 often embodies <em>dialogue<\/em>, as it navigates between disciplines, methodologies, scholarly study, and creative practice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:18px\">To this end,  the aim of the 2025 MMP one-day conference is to exemplify the power of <em>dialogue<\/em> by providing a platform for presenters to share, critique, strengthen, and cherish their work through mutual exchange and peer\/lecturer feedback, ultimately sparking new insights that will nourish, nurture, and guide their Major Music Project research journeys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:18px\">Conference Date &amp; Venues:\u00a0<strong>Tuesday 18 March 2025 <\/strong>\u2014\u00a0<strong>Rooms G20, G21, G23<\/strong> <strong>Merchiston Campus, Edinburgh Napier University.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\"><strong>References<\/strong><br>&nbsp;<br>Jullander, Sverker. 2016. \u201cIntroduction: Creating Dialogues on Artistic Research.\u201d <em>Svensk Tidskrift f\u00f6r Musikforskning<\/em> 95: 11.
