The False Webs networks kicked off our public engagement events working with Glasgow Skeptics and Edinburgh Skeptics ‘At the Pub’. Network members Faye Skelton, Alice Howarth, and Henry Otgaar gave captivating talks at the lovely Three Sisters stage in the “Disinformation Superhighway”<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n

Henry and Faye discussed some ways that media and misinformation can affect the justice system, either by introducing the concept of ‘recovered memories’, or by encouraging public pressure and false confessions. Alice shared some insight from her visits to a Flat Earth convention and other similar events, giving some perspective to why people might believe in something that is not backed by research or sceintific reasoning. At the end of the show, a Q&A hosted by Glasgow Skeptics saw many of the questions of the audience answered!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
